Pride Handle Tornados in Midweek Conference Showdown

Three Reach Double Figures in Loss

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (12-10, 7-6 USA South) fell 81-63 to Greensboro College (5-19, 4-9 USAS) on Tuesday evening in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Greensboro managed to slightly outshoot the Tornados 50.9% to 45-5% for the contest, and the Pride hit four more 3-pointers (13-to-9) than BC, proving to be a key difference.

The Pride were led by Isaiah Pruett, who dropped 32 points on nine field goals made, with four 3-pointers mixed in. Pruett made a point to get to the free throw line, going 10-for-11 at the charity stripe. Grant Thompson added 17 points while DJ Jackson contributed 14.

Brevard's offense also featured three double-figure scorers, with KK Horton pacing the way with 13 points to go alongside five rebounds and three assists. Charlie Hester added 11 points, while six-time USA South Rookie of the Week Twain Wilson added 10 points. Wilson, Justen Goudelock, and Carson Evans all hit two 3-pointers apiece, while Evans and Charles Reed matched the team lead with five rebounds. For the first time all season, however, BC did not manage a steal as Greensboro only turned the ball over four times all game.

BC opened up a one-point lead, 8-7, but a quick 6-0 run by the Pride before the first media timeout had the hosts up by five points, 13-8. Greensboro used an early edge on the offensive glass to open up a six-point cushion at the 11:06 mark, 18-12.

Pruett and Horton traded 3-pointers on consecutive possessions but the Pride continued their strong work from beyond the arc, canning their sixth 3-pointer at the nine-minute mark. GC held a seven-point lead, 26-19 at the eight-minute mark of the first half.

Greensboro extended its lead out to a 10-point margin with four minutes remaining in the half. Brevard was able to cut the deficit all the way down to two points, 34-32, after a pair of Goudelock 3-pointers and a bucket by Wilson. The Pride responded with an 8-0 stretch to close the half, as Greensboro took a 10-point edge to the locker rooms.

GC held a 53% to 48% edge from the field, and doubled up BC in 3-pointers made in the first half (8-to-4). Pruett led all scorers at the break with 22 points to go alongside seven assists, with seven field goals and four 3-pointers in the first half. Horton led Brevard with seven points in the first period.

Greensboro began the second half much like the way it ended the first, opening up a 16-point lead, 50-34, just three minutes into the stanza. Brevard was able to trim the deficit down to seven midway through the half, and put some pressure on the Pride with just over six minutes left to play cutting it to a 67-61 ballgame following a Goudelock layup. However, GC was able to silence the rally with a layup and 3-pointer of its own to push it back up to an 11-point margin, 72-61, with 3:19 to go.

The Pride were able to pull away from that point forward, ending the game on a 9-0 run to close out the 81-63 victory.

Brevard will close the regular season out on Saturday in Rocky Mount, taking on NC Wesleyan with playoff positioning on the line. The USA South Conference Tournament is set to begin on Tuesday, February 25.
