Softball Falls in Two Tight Matchups in Myrtle on Wednesday

Tornados Walked Off in Game One, Offense Halts in Second Contest

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Brevard College softball team (3-7) fell in two close matchups in its second day at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic on Wednesday afternoon.

BC first fell in a heartbreaker, as Dean College (2-3) walked the Tornados off in eight innings, 5-4. The Tornados then turned right around to face Penn State-Harrisburg (3-1), with Brevard falling 5-2 in the second affair of the day.

DEAN 8, BREVARD 7 (8 INNINGS)

BC and Dean each struck for a first inning, with Brevard's Andrea Furr driving an RBI double to bring Regan Winkler around to score. The contest shifted to the fourth after scoreless frames in the second and third innings, and Addie MacDougall delivered a sacrifice fly that brought fellow first-year Tornado Analee Morris around to score.

Logan Masinsky kept up her solid start, entering the sixth with a 2-1 lead. The Bulldogs were able to touch the Tornado sophomore for two in the bottom of the sixth, turning the tide of the game late by taking a 3-2 edge after six.

With one out, the Tornados were able to load the bases thanks to three-straight singles from Alyssa Boris, Winkler, and Furr. Rylee Locklear stepped up to the dish and delivered a sacrifice fly that brought pinch-runner Anna Graves around to score, tying the game back up.

Elizabeth Auciello (1-4) shut the Bulldogs down in the bottom of the seventh, sending BC to its first extra-inning contest of the 2025 campaign.

BC stepped up quickly, as Summer Crist hit an RBI single that drove in BC's courtesy runner Morris. Three-consecutive outs prevented further damage, however, as Dean stepped back up to the dish in the bottom of the eighth.

Dean used two hits and a Tornado error to score two runs in the final frame, escaping with a one-run walkoff win on a sacrifice fly.

Winkler was able to turn in a perfect 4-for-4 outing at the plate, while Furr and Morris each notched two hits apiece. Morris scored a team-best two runs, while she and Graves both stole bases.

Masinsky lasted 5.1 innings as the starter, allowing eight hits and two earned runs with a pair of strikeouts. Auciello was saddled with the loss in 2.1 innings, recording a strikeout as well.

PENN STATE-HARRISBURG 5, BREVARD 2

After Brevard got out of the gates going early once more with two runs in the top of the first, the Nittany Lions responded with a five-run bottom of the second inning that proved to be all the difference in the three-run defeat for Brevard.

Addison Smith and Winkler each totaled two hits each, while Jadyn Harlow drove BC's first-inning two-RBI double. Boris, Crist, Locklear, and Morris also all notched base knocks, with Morris and Smith coming around to score for the Tornados in the top of the first.

Savannah Barr highlighted the work in the circle for the Tornados in game two, hurling four innings of strong relief work with five total strikeouts.

Outside of the first inning, offense was hard to come by for the Tornados. BC put together a serious threat in the top of the third, but stranded the bases loaded after a strikeout. Brevard got a pair of leadoff runners on in the top of the sixth, and loaded the bases up with one out, however a strikeout and a line out halted the opportunity.

That proved BC's last scoring threat of the game as the Nittany Lions iced things in the top of the seventh.

The Tornados close out play at the beach Thursday at 9 a.m., facing Delaware Valley University back at the NMB complex.
