Masinsky’s Complete-Game Shutout Lifts Brevard Past Delaware Valley

Sophomore Shuts Down DVU as Tornados Close Spring Break with Win

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Sophomore pitcher Logan Masinsky turned in a gem as the Brevard College softball team (4-7) ended its Spring Break trip with a 5-0 triumph over Delaware Valley (4-1) on Thursday morning at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.

Masinsky (2-0), a second-year Tornado hailing from Columbia, South Carolina, tossed the first CG shutout of her collegiate career and BC's second of the season – and first in a seven-inning contest – allowing just six hits with a strikeout. It marks the first seven-inning for the Tornados since March 4, 2023 against Huntingdon.

Brevard's offense featured a well-balanced attack, as eight different Tornados recorded base knocks. Alyssa Boris led the charge with a 2-for-2 day at the dish with an RBI and walk. Jadyn Harlow, Analee Morris, Addison Smith, and Regan Winkler all totaled hits and runs scored, with Morris (double) and Winkler (triple) driving extra-base hits. In addition to Boris' RBI, Gabby Hooper, Smith, and Winkler all also drove in runs. Karley Queen added a single and a stolen base, while Summer Crist rounded out BC's balanced offensive performance with a base hit as well.

The Aggies got a runner aboard with a leadoff single, but she was left stranded on second. DVU was able to sit the Tornados down in order in the bottom of the first.

DVU threatened in the top of the second with two one-out singles and a sacrifice bunt, placing runners at second and third with two away. Masinsky and the Tornado defense escaped the threat with an inning-ending ground out.

Harlow kicked things off in the bottom of the second with a single up the middle, and Anna Graves pinch-ran for her and was advanced by a sacrifice bunt from Rylee Locklear. Boris delivered an RBI single for the Nados, putting Brevard up early 1-0.

Masinsky only surrendered one base runner in the ensuing top of the third via a walk before Brevard's bats came back to the dish in the bottom of the frame. Morris launched a one-out double into left-center field, and Smith followed that up with an RBI single that pushed Brevard's lead up to a two-run margin. Winkler smacked a triple down the right-field line, as BC chased DVU's starter out of the contest in the third frame.

Harlow reached on an error, allowing Winkler to come across and score. Hooper came through with runners on the corners and two outs with an RBI single of her own, as Brevard opened up a five-run lead through three innings.

DVU one again put forth a serious scoring opportunity in the top-half of the fourth after a leadoff double, walk, and wild pitch put runners on second and third with nobody out. Masinsky and the Tornado defense came through once more, forcing a pop out on the infield, a shallow fly to center, and a line out to third base, keeping the Tornados up 5-0.

Delaware Valley got two more runners aboard in the top of the fifth, but it was all for naught as another ground out ended the frame. Masinsky and company had little trouble with the Aggies in the top of the sixth, as Brevard put itself three outs away from closing out its Spring Break trip with a victory.

USA South Conference play is just around the bend for BC softball, with the Tornados hosting their first twin bill in league play on Saturday, March 22 at 1 and 3 p.m. against Meredith.
