BREVARD, N.C. – In a special pregame ceremony, the Brevard College men's lacrosse team (2-7, 0-2 USA South) honored its five-member senior class of
Scott Bundy,
Jack Hicks,
Michael Peters,
Brice Peterson, and
Jared Smith on the turf of Ives-Lemel Family Field on Saturday afternoon.
Following the festivities, the Tornados competed against Greensboro College (2-6, 1-0 USAS). The Pride took a 16-3 victory over Brevard.
Peters, a senior from Belmont, North Carolina, scored twice, grabbed three ground balls, and added two caused turnovers in an all-around performance.
Matt Smith added a goal, while senior Bundy and freshman
Joseph Piazza each added an assist. Bundy, a senior from Cumberland, Rhode Island, led the Tornados with five ground balls on the afternoon.
BC's all-time leader in saves added 19 to his ledger in the defeat. Hicks, a fourth-year Tornado from Greensboro, North Carolina, faced a total of 52 Pride shots while defending the cage.
Greensboro opened a 3-0 lead up before Bundy connected with Smith for the strike to pull BC back within two. The Pride scored three more goals consecutively, but Peters found the back of the net for his first goal of the day. GC used another 3-0 run to take a 9-2 lead at the break.
In the second half, the visitors were able to find the back of the net seven times to help clinch the result. Piazza connected with Peters at the 3:03 mark in the third quarter, bringing Peters' team-leading point total up to 22. From there, Greensboro scored the game's last four goals to earn the triumph.
BC MLAX is next back in play next Friday, March 21 as Brevard wraps up a four-game homestand at 4 p.m. against LaGrange.
