Three Tornados Secure Academic All-District Honors

Barker, Miller, and Plucar Honored by CSC

BREVARD, N.C. – Three Brevard College track & field student-athletes were selected as Academic All-District performers by College Sports Communicators (CSC). Channing Barker, Haylea-Layne Miller, and Owen Plucar were all chosen to earn the prestigious accolade.

The Academic All-District team is part of the Academic All-America program that has been honoring outstanding academic and athletic achievement by student-athletes throughout the landscape of college sports since 1952.  The CSC Academic All-America Cross Country/Track & Field teams will be announced later this summer.

Barker, a recent master's graduate from BC with her MBA degree, earns her third selection onto the Track & Field Academic All-District squad, and her fifth overall Academic All-District accolade as a BC student-athlete. In 2024-25, Barker won the USA South Conference Indoor Championships in both the 800-meter and the one-mile races and earned two USA South Indoor Track Runner of the Week honors. In Cross Country, Barker finished fourth at the USA South Championships and earned All-Region honors at the 2024 NCAA DIII South Region Championships by finishing inside the top 50.

Miller, a recent BC graduate earning her Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, earns her third-straight Academic All-District honor. Miller earned Outdoor All-Conference Second Team honors as part of BC's 4x100-meter relay team, secured Indoor All-Conference Third Team as part of BC's Distance Medley Relay squad, and was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team in both Indoor and Outdoor Track.

Plucar, a rising senior from Plymouth, Minnesota, earned his first career Academic All-District nominations. Plucar – an All-Conference Third Team honoree as part of the 4x100 meter relay squad for BC – is an Exercise Science major at Brevard.

The 2024-25 Academic All-District teams, selected by the College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined academic and athletic achievements. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Divisions II and III Academic All-America programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
