BREVARD, N.C. - Junior forward Roi Abutbul found the back of the net in the 80th minute as the Brevard College men's soccer team (0-2-2) earned a 1-1 draw against Centre College (0-2-3) on Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
The goal marked the second of the season for Abutbul, the junior transfer from Jerusalem, Israel. A loose ball was collected by German Garcia, as the Canary Islands, Spain native distributed his first collegiate assist. Abutbul was nearly the hero in the match's final seconds after a put-back goal, but the score was called back due to offsides.
An early goal in the third minute by Centre's Amit Shahar off assists by AJ Daniels and Ryan O'Hara gave the Colonels the lead, one which they would hold for over 77 minutes before Abutbul's equalizer.
Centre held a very narrow 15-to-14 shot advantage, with both teams taking five shots on target. Each keeper made four saves as Tom Percival-Smith started for the second match in a row for BC. The Colonels took six corner kicks in the contest.
The Tornados hit the road next weekend for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at Berea College in Berea, Kentucky on Saturday, September 20.
