BEREA, Ky. - Roi Abutbul scored his third goal of the season off a late-game free kick, as the Brevard College men's soccer team (0-2-3) used another late equalizer to secure a draw, 1-1, at Berea College (0-5-1) on Saturday afternoon in Berea, Kentucky.
Â
After nearly 83 minutes of scoreless, defensive action, Berea's Peter Mensah found the back of the net at the 82:52 mark to put the Mountaineers up 1-0. Just a mere 22 seconds later, however, the Tornados drew a free kick and Abutbul - a first-year Tornado from Jerusalem, Israel - found the 84th minute equalizer as the result ended in a 1-1 draw.
Â
Berea dominated the shot count in the first half, 9-2, but the Tornado defense was able to withstand through the first 45 minutes. Brevard flipped the script in the second half, owning a 9-5 shot edge. Overall, the Tornados led 6-to-2 in shots-on-target, as Brevard forced Berea to make five total saves.
Â
Following Abutbul's equalizer, the Tornados had a few last-minute changes as
Roi Kedar and
Marios Tsiolis each took attempts that went off-target, leaving the contest in a 1-1 tie.
Â
Brevard continues non-conference play on Wednesday, September 24 at 5 p.m. against Covenant at Ives-Lemel Family Field before the USA South Conference opener at home on Saturday, September 27 at 4 p.m. against Southern Virginia.
