Dominant 4-0 Victory vs. Covenant Marks First Win of 2025 for BC

Four Different Tornados Score in Stellar Home Performance

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's soccer team (1-2-3) secured its first winning decision of the season in dominant fashion, downing Covenant (3-4-2), 4-0 on Wednesday night at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

It was a back-and-forth affair early on in the first half before Martin Moguel Aguilar found Roi Abutbul on a beautiful cross into the box. Abutbul stuck it into the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season, giving the Tornados the edge in the 15th minute.

The Tornados and Scots traded chances but came up empty until the 32nd minute. A Caue dos Santos free kick found the head of freshman Will Hall, who directed it to the right foot of Leonardo Zabeu, as the Tornados extended their lead with under 15 minutes to play before half.

Neither side found the net before half, sending the Tornados to the break with a 2-0 lead. Brevard controlled the quality opportunities in the first half, outshooting Covenant 11-8. Manuel Tovar Hagstrom tallied two first-half saves for the Tornados to hold the Scots scoreless.

Brevard wasted little time in the second half, as Leonardo Zabeu sent a lengthy throw in into the box that was won by Brandon King, who directed it towards the head of Will Hall. The freshman striker sent the ball into the right side of the net for his first collegiate goal, extending Brevard's lead to 3-0 in the 57th minute.

The Tornados' defense, as it had done all night, deterred the Scots from creating many quality opportunities at the net. In the 89th minute, dos Santos capped off the Tornados' explosive offensive effort with a free kick goal from 30 yards out, creating the final 4-0 tally.

Covenant tallied 17 shots on the night, however only three of the Scots' shots were on goal compared to the Tornados' nine on target. The Scots took seven corners to the Tornados' four, but Brevard's defense combined with the efforts of keeper Tovar Hagstrom helped the Tornados to earn the clean sheet and their first win of the 2025 season.

With momentum from Wednesday's win, Brevard looks to kick off USA South Conference play on the right foot, welcoming Southern Virginia to Ives-Lemel Family Field on Saturday at 4 p.m.
