Laycock Named Defensive Player of the Week Following Breakout Performance

Six Tackles, Four TFL, Two Sacks - DPOW

BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College sophomore defensive lineman James Laycock has been selected by the USA South Conference as the Defensive Player of the Week after a monster performance in BC's 26-10 victory on the road at the University of the South last weekend.

Laycock, a second-year Tornado from Orange Park, Florida, was a dominant force in BC's victory, registering career bests in total tackles (six), solo and assisted tackles (three each), tackles-for-loss (four), and sacks (two). One of Laycock's TFL resulted in two points for the Tornados with a safety, and the sophomore also recorded a quarterback hurry.

BC's strong defensive efforts were on full display Saturday, as the Tornados held the Tigers to just 10 points and forced five punts, two fumbles, and Laycock's safety.

Laycock's breakout performance comes off the heels of a three-tackle outing in the season opener vs. Kentucky Christian. In 2024, Laycock was a member of the BC Football Futures program, competing in five total contests.

The Tornados are back at home this Saturday as Brevard faces Erskine in a 4 p.m. kickoff at Ives-Lemel Family Field. Fans are encouraged to wear black for the annual Black Out contest.
