SALEM, Va. – The Brevard College volleyball team (1-7) battled, but dropped a pair of matchups at the Maroon Classic against hosts Roanoke College and Randolph College.
Roanoke 3, Brevard 0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-19)
BC started the day with a tightly contested first set against the Maroons, falling 25-20, but a double-digit set win in the second propelled Roanoke to sweep Brevard in straight sets.
Freshmen
Abigail Kelly and
Malahna Hoyle led the way for Brevard in the kill department, tallying six apiece.
Izzy Boulay, who reached 1,000 assists earlier this weekend, led the Tornados with 16 assists. Freshman
Gianna Borcich added five digs to lead all Tornados.
Randolph 3, Brevard 0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-23)
Brevard went back-and-forth in the first set with Randolph before the Wildcats ripped off six consecutive points to build a 19-12 lead. The Tornados battled back to make it 21-20 before the Wildcats scored four of the final five points to end the set, 25-21.
Brevard had an 18-17 lead in the second set, but Randolph scored the final eight points to take the second set. Brevard had a 21-16 lead in the third, but Randolph once again battled back to win the third set, 25-23.
Caroline Moon led with eight kills, shortly followed by
Lili White's seven. Boulay tallied another 13 assists while Kelly led with 16 digs.
Brevard opens its home schedule on Tuesday, September 9th against Bob Jones at 6 pm.
