Battling Bishops Surge to Sunday Victory

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Brevard College men's basketball team (6-8, 0-4 USA South) dropped the second of back-to-back USA South Conference road matchups, as NC Wesleyan (12-3, 4-0 USAS) cruised to a 101-60 triumph on Sunday afternoon at Everett Gymnasium.

The Tornados were able to keep the contest within single digits for the majority of the first 20 minutes, with BC trailing by nine at halftime 43-34. The Battling Bishops surged in the second half, outscoring Brevard by 32 in the frame (58-26) en route to the conference win.

Nasir Johnson sparked NCWU with a 31-point performance, going 11-of-13 from the field and 2-of-3 from long range, adding a perfect 7-of-7 mark from the free throw line. Johnson was one of four double-digit scorers for NC Wesleyan, as Rashod Smith (21 points, eight rebounds), James Jones (15 points, five 3-pointers made), and Marcus Portis (10 points) all contributed heavily to the winning effort.

Jadon Carnes and KK Horton paced the Tornados with nine points, while Dre'Shaun Brown totaled eight points and four boards. Khalil Black added eight points off the bench for Brevard.

The Tornados will return to the Boshamer Gymnasium on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. to face Pfeiffer.
