STAUNTON, Va. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (8-11, 1-7 USA South) dropped a road conference matchup at Mary Baldwin (8-10, 3-6), 71-66 on Saturday afternoon.
Four Tornados reached double figure scoring totals, led by Twain Wilson and Jadon Carnes who scored 18 and 17 points respectively with efficient outputs. KK Horton added 13 points with a team-best six assists, while Dre'Shaun Brown pitched in 10 points and six boards. The quartet accounted for 58 of Brevard's 66 points in the game.
The Tornados were held to a 37% mark from the field in the first half, but surged for a 54% clip in the second stanza. MBU held a 10-3 edge in second-chance points, as the contest swung back and forth with seven ties and four lead changes.
Raymond Benton paced the Fighting Squirrels with 20 points, with Rony Hogarth chipping in 16 and Mason Wynne adding 11 off the bench.
BC led by as many as seven points in the first half and took a three-point edge into the intermission, 33-30. Brevard pushed its advantage all the way up to 15 points, 49-34, early in the second half, but MBU responded with a stellar 21-4 scoring run to flip the script. The two sides traded punches down the stretch, with BC trailing by one point, 67-66, with less than a minute to go, but a jumped with 30 seconds to play and a game-sealing dunk gave the Fighting Squirrels a season sweep of Brevard.
BC returns to action next Thursday, Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m. at Greensboro.
