BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College men's lacrosse (0-6, 0-1 USAS) opened USA South play on Saturday afternoon, battling but falling to Methodist (3-4, 1-0 USAS), 22-2 at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
The Monarchs started quickly, netting the game's opening goal a minute and a half in, courtesy of RJ Breeden. Methodist would add eight more goals, seven of which were assisted, to grab a 9-0 lead after the first quarter.
The tally remained 9-0 for the first five minutes and change of the second quarter before Brevard's
Roderick Frazier Jr. scored Brevard's first goal of the game, also his first career goal, to get the Tornados on the board.
Methodist would score the next three goals to extend the lead to 12-1 before
Gage Khayat scored his 12th goal of the year with 2:24 to go before halftime. The Monarchs added one more before the break, making it a 13-2 halftime edge.
The Monarchs were the aggressors after halftime, scoring five goals in the third quarter followed by five in the fourth, holding Brevard scoreless in the final 30 minutes of play.
14 different Monarchs scored in the conference opener, with Logan Garrett leading with four goals. Jay Legg added three goals, while RJ Breeden, Nick Spinola, and LJ Oby scored two apiece. Four different goalies spent time in net for Methodist, combining for ten saves.
Brevard was led offensively by
Gage Khayat and
Roderick Frazier Jr., scoring a goal apiece.
Jameson Murray faced 41 shots on goal, tallying 19 saves.
Brevard returns home for a non-conference matchup with Alfred State on Monday, March 9 at 2 p.m.
