Tornados Host Senior Day on Sunday

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College baseball program honored its eight seniors on Sunday at Gil Coan Field.

Prior to the start of action, BC saluted its eight seniors – Matthew Evans, Andy Fahringer, Gavin Grant, Jonathan Germany, Gavin McCoy, Juan Perez, Logan Sawyer, and Greg Simmons – in a special ceremony.

The Tornados (16-20, 5-13 USA South) battled but ultimately dropped a pair of tight contests, 8-5 and 8-6, to William Peace (15-21, 7-11 USAS) in the final home doubleheader of 2026.

GAME ONE: WILLIAM PEACE 8, BREVARD 5

Following two scoreless innings by both sides to kick off the doubleheader, BC broke up the stalemate in the bottom of the third. Andrew Bernard led the frame off, getting aboard via an error before Gavin Grant drew a walk to put a pair on base. Adam Newcomb drew a full-count walk to load the bases up, and Nico Bartolotti battled in a 10-pitch at bat to draw a bases-loaded RBI walk, putting the Tornados up. With two outs in the inning, Kacey Shanks drew a bases-loaded walk with another full count to double the BC advantage.

Peace responded in the top of the fourth with two outs, driving its first base hit of the contest with a triple. Following a two-out walk that placed runners on the corners, Hayden Heath delivered a three-run inside-the-park home run as the Pacers took their first lead of the afternoon, 3-2.

BC found an answer in the bottom of the fourth, as Grant scored Hinkle on an RBI double. Newcomb followed suit with an RBI single that pushed BC back on top by one run, 4-3.

The Pacers were able to cash in a leadoff single in the top of the fifth, with the run coming across via a wild pitch with two outs to tie the game back up. Peace then used a double steal attempt in the top of the sixth to retake the lead, 5-4.

Newcomb came across on a sacrifice fly by Nico Bartolotti in the bottom of the sixth, tying the score once more at five runs apiece. WPU answered right back with a two-out rally in the top of the seventh, using an RBI triple and a steal of home to claim the lead for good.

The Pacers added an insurance run in the top of the ninth with a sacrifice fly, and slammed the door in the bottom of the ninth despite a leadoff walk, knotting the series up at a game apiece.

Newcomb and Tyson Hinkle each recorded three base knocks in game one of the DH, joining Bartolotti and Grant with doubles. Bartolotti went 2-for-2 with a team-best two RBI. The Tornado offense recorded 10 base hits and drew nine walks, but stranded a total of 13 baserunners.

GAME TWO: WILLIAM PEACE 8, BREVARD 6

An extra-inning thriller followed in the series finale, with Brevard taking the lead for the first time late in the bottom of the seventh. Peace found a late rally in the top of the ninth, scoring the game-tying run with two outs to send the contest to the 10th. WPU scored twice in the 11th and sat the Tornados down 1-2-3 to finish off the series.

Peace kicked the scoring off with a solo homer in the top of the second and two runs in the top of the third. Bartolotti brought Newcomb in to score for BC's first score in the bottom of the fourth, while the two sides traded runs in the fifth to make it 4-2 in favor of the visitors.

WPU tacked on a run in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly, but Bartolotti answered with a solo home run over the right-field wall that marked the 100th hit of his collegiate career.

BC flipped the script in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out rally as the Tornados surged for three runs to take the lead, 6-5. Down to its final out, Peace found the tying run in the top of the ninth as Kahner Moss singled to left field, bringing Jacob Herzberg around to score to tie things at six runs apiece.

A pair of RBI singles for WPU in the top of the 11th put the Pacers up by two, and Seth Svadeba sat the Tornados down in order to sweep the doubleheader and win the pivotal conference series.

The Tornados close out the 2026 regular season at Greensboro for a three-game series beginning on Friday, April 24 at 4 p.m.
