Tornados Conclude Season at USA South Outdoor Championships

CONCORD, N.C. – Brevard had a successful weekend at the 2026 USA South Outdoor Track and Field Championships, finishing third on the men's side and fifth on the women's side.

The Tornados' weekend started with the women's 100m, where Akeelah Hurley placed fourth at 12.50. Makynna McDonald started her weekend placing 10th in the women's 200m.

Serenity Jordan was BC's lone competitor in the women's 400m, finishing 11th at 1:02.40. The men started competition in the men's 800m, with Adin DeJesus finishing ninth at 2:08.55 and Colbin Hill shortly followed in 11th at 2:13.05.

Owen Plucar impressed in the men's 1500m, finishing second at 4:05.99. Shea Granger also finished in the top ten, placing seventh at 4:19.35. Molly Perry was BC's lone competitor in the women's 1500m, placing eighth at 5:33.39.

Ethan Carlan led Brevard in the men's 5000m, finishing ninth at 16:56.77. Shea Granger followed, finishing 12th at 17:44.14. Carlan also produced in the 10000m, finishing fifth at 34:54.25. 

Jaxsen Wilkerson kicked off his weekend in the men's 110m hurdles, finishing fifth at 15.94. On the women's side, Elizabeth Foster finished fourth at 17.14, while Katie Woody placed seventh at 18.89.  Imani Singleton placed sixth for BC in the 400m hurdles, crossing at 1:13.90. 

Colbin Hill produced in the men's 3000m steeple chase, finishing sixth at 10:59.61.

Next was the men's 4 x 100m relay, where BC's team of Zyrell Abercrombie, Jeffrey McDougald, Reggie Taylor II, and Develle Morgan placed fourth at 43.50. On the women's side, the team of Serenity Jordan, Makynna McDonald, Imani Singleton, and Akeelah Hurley impressed with a second place finish at 49.42. 

In the 4 x 400m relay, the team of Abercrombie, McDougald, Tyrell Bailey, and Owen Plucar finished fifth at 3:42.48. On the women's side, Jordan, Hurley, Singleton, and McDonald finished seventh at 4:36.07.

The field events kicked off with the men's high jump, where Noah Osuji tied for seventh at 1.70m. In the men's pole vault, Jaxsen Wilkerson placed eighth at 2.90m.

Next was the men's long jump, where Wilkerson led the Tornados with a sixth place finish at 6.47m. Tyrell Bailey followed in 11th at 6.03m, and Noah Osuji rounded out BC in 14th at 5.16m. BC had two in the top five on the women's side, led by Imani Singleton in third at 5.13m, followed by Makynna McDonald in fifth at 5.00m. 

Bailey and Wilkerson impressed again in the triple jump, with Bailey earning a second place finish at 13.89m, followed by Wilkerson in fifth at 13.42m. Ty Breeze shortly followed in ninth at 12.96m, and Noah Osuji finished 10th at 12.53m. McDonald and Singleton were impressive for BC on the women's side, with McDonald finishing fourth at 10.93m and Singleton placing fifth at 10.45m. 

Brevard dominated in the men's shot put, securing the top four spots. Cameron Eubanks earned a conference championship in the event with a throw of 14.87m, followed by Noah Westbrook in second at 14.86m, Antonio King in third at 13.90m, and Donningtun Walters in fourth at 13.39m. Hank Tarte also had a good showing, finishing 10th at 10.89m. Anne Herring finished 10th on the women's side at 9.04m. Tori Gates followed in 12th at 8.15m.

Antonio King secured a conference title in the men's discus, setting a meet record with a throw of 45.43m. He was followed by Cameron Eubanks in second at 44.02m. Hank Tarte finished eighth at 37.31m, followed by Noah Westbrook in 10th at 32.45m. Tori Gates was BC's lone competitor on the women's side, finishing 12th at 20.23m.

BC continued its dominant field showing on the men's side, with Hank Tarte winning the USA South crown in the men's hammer with a 44.54m throw, followed by Antonio King in second at 44.48m, and Donningtun Walters in third at 42.57m. Noah Westbrook also secured a top ten finish in eighth at 35.08m. On the women's side, Kinsley Burris-Whitesides placed seventh at 35.31m and Tori Gates placed 10th at 24.03m. 

Brevard closed out the weekend in the javelin throw, with Jaxsen Wilkerson placing fifth at 45.56m, and Katie Woody placing seventh for the women at 21.80m.

The successful weekend at the USA South Championship meet closes out BC's outdoor track and field season.
