BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College track & field program hosted a very successful Third Annual Tornado Classic at the Frank Patton Track on Friday.
The event was highlighted by several stellar performances by BC student-athletes and also featured a special Senior Day ceremony for BC's senior class of
Anne Herring,
Antonio King,
Owen Plucar,
Imani Singleton,
Hank Tarte,
Noah Westbrook, and
Jaxsen Wilkerson.
On the women's side, the Tornados finished in first place in four different events and secured seven total top-three finishes.
In the women's 4x100-meter relay, the quartet of
Serenity Jordan,
Makynna McDonald,
Imani Singleton, and
Akeelah Hurley completed the event with an impressive 48.96 mark. Hurley followed that performance up with a personal best in the women's 100-meter dash, finishing in 12.45.
Continuing on the track, McDonald set a PR in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.68, placing third in the event. Jordan finished the women's 400-meter dash in second place with a PR of 1:02.61, rounding out the top finishers on the track for BC's women's side.
In the field, McDonald set a new meet record in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.52m to win the event, while Singleton placed third with a 5.12-meter best. Singleton then won the women's triple jump with a 10.50m best.
On the track in men's, Abercrombie, McDougald, Morgan, and Taylor III placed third in the men's 4x100 relay in 44.39. Plucar, the senior from Plymouth, Minnesota, won the men's 800-meter race with a personal best of 1:58.34. Meanwhile,
Shea Granger was first in the men's 1,500-meter race with another PR, this one at 4:12.22.
BC continued its field dominance on the men's side.
Tyrell Bailey put forth a strong overall showing with a second-place finish in the long jump (6.44m) while winning the triple jump (14.28m).
Ty Breeze also recorded a top-three finish in the long jump with a 6.42m attempt.
Throws concluded action at the meet, as senior Westbrook set a new BC NCAA-era record with a 15.11m throw in the men's shot put, winning the event handily. Eubanks placed second, following Westbrook up with a 14.13m attempt. Herring PR'd in the wpmen's shot put with a third place finish at 9.68m, capping the top-three finalists for BC.
Overall, as a team, the Tornados finished second only to Milligan on both the men's and women's sides.
