DANVILLE, Ky. – The Brevard College men's soccer team (2-1) surged past Spalding (0-3-1), 3-1 at the 37
th Annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic hosted by Centre College at Amend Field.
Brevard scored first, responded quickly to Spalding's equalizer, and put the match away in the second half en route to BC's second win in non-conference play.
Josh Macdonald scored his first goal in a Tornado uniform off an assist from
Roi Abutbul.
Julian Martin also found the back of the net for the first time in 2026 via
Rawad Khashan's assist, and Abutbul's second assist of the contest effectively put the match out of reach, as
Guilherme Barcelos scored for the second time in 2026.
Spalding's lone strike of the match came when Ryder Roberson connected with Victor Godgift.
BC controlled things throughout, outpacing the Eagles 15-3 in shot attempts with a wide on-target edge. Brevard claimed six corner kicks throughout the match as well, as the Tornados claimed the possession battle.
The Tornados were on the attack early as Macdonald and
Nima Doucoure each fired attempts in the first 10 minutes.
Guilherme Barcelos put the first shot on frame for BC in the 16
th minute, forcing a Spalding save. Brevard took its third corner of the game in the 17
th minute, and Abutbul's cross found Macdonald for the opening goal of the evening.
Spalding found an answer, tallying four corner kicks of its own before capitalizing off a corner from the near side, as the Eagles struck back to tie the match in the 36
th minute.
A mere 38 seconds later, however, Brevard countered as
Rawad Khashan whipped in a cross that
Julian Martin redirected with his chest into the right side of the net, giving Brevard a 2-1 lead that it would take into the intermission.
BC dominated the shot tally at the break, 10-3, while each side had won four corner kicks.
Neither side managed a shot attempt through the first 15 minutes of the second half, but Barcelos delivered his second goal of the season by finishing Abutbul's second assist of the night, putting the Tornados up by two goals with 30 minutes to go.
The Tornado defense stifled the Eagles for the remainder of the contest, as Spalding was held without a shot attempt for nearly 27 minutes.
BC is back in action on Sunday at 2:15 p.m. to take on tournament hosts Centre.
