LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Graduate forward Guilherme Barcelos notched his first collegiate hat trick as the Brevard College men's soccer team (5-1) won its fourth match in a row, defeating Covenant (1-6), 4-1 on Tuesday evening at Scotland Yard.
Barcelos, the back-to-back USA South Rookie of the Week, opened the scoring in the 15th minute off assists by Roi Abutbul and German Garcia.
Covenant tied the match in the 32nd minute off a penalty kick, leveling the contest through the first 45 minutes.
Barcelos wasted no time in the second period, finding the back of the net in the 49th minute off Garcia's second assist of the match, putting BC back on top with the eventual match-winner.
BC's defense held Covenant off the board, and its offense provided some insurance to the one-goal lead. Barcelos completed his hat trick in the 72nd minute on an unassisted strike. Under four minutes later, Garcia punctuated his strong performance with his first goal of 2026, finishing a pass from Enrique Sosa to all but seal the match in favor of Brevard.
Brevard dominated the shot count, 18-9, with an 8-2 on-target edge. Barcelos' hat trick marks just the sixth three-goal performance of BC's NCAA era, and is the first since October 8, 2023.
The Tornados open USA South Conference play on Saturday at noon in Staunton, Virginia against Mary Baldwin.
