BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College women's soccer (7-0-2) remained unbeaten in 2026, as an early goal by
Janie Steele coupled with a stellar defensive performance led the Tornados past the University of the South (4-1-2) on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
Steele collected a loose ball and fired a nearly 30-yard shot into the top-right corner of the goal in the fifth minute, marking the lone score of the match for either side.
Brevard's defense put forth another stellar effort, as the Tornados kept Sewanee off the scoresheet through the entirety of the contest. The Tigers put nine shots on target, all of which were denied by senior goalkeeper
Abby Nunez, who notched her seventh clean sheet of the season. BC defenders
Natalie DeBella,
Sophia DePasquale, and
MK Smoak played all 90 minutes, as
Sienna Fox also competed for 88-plus minutes, helping the Tornado defense keep the Tigers off the scoreboard.
Sewanee's Amelia Corneaux led all Tigers with five shot attempts, while Greer Brantley, Tori Botthof, Sonia Djurasovic, Laney Kalsu, and Stella Martin all fired off multiple attempts as well.
The defeat marks the first loss of the season for Sewanee, who took a total of 25 shots and earned nine corner kicks in the match. The Tornados notch an impressive non-conference win with the result, as Sewanee most recently drew with No. 9 Emory last week.
Brevard preserves its current unbeaten stretch, pushing its regular-season unbeaten mark to 45 matches, dating back to Oct. 14, 2023. The Tornados remain unbeaten at home in all contests since Oct. 18, 2022, a stretch of 36 consecutive matches.
The Tornados are back in action on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in Charlotte, taking on Johnson & Wales, before returning to USA South Conference play on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Raleigh to face Meredith.
