BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's soccer team (6-2-0, 1-1-0 USA South) surrendered a goal in the 72nd minute and were unable to find an equalizer man-up as the Tornados fell 1-0 to Greensboro (6-0-2, 1-0-0 USAS) on Wednesday night at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
After a hard-fought scoreless first half, the intensity carried over into the second half as neither side was able to find the back of the net through the first 25 minutes. Oliver Randholm Luque silenced the home crowd in the 71st minute, dribbling through the defense before firing the go-ahead strike into the back of the net to give the Pride the one-goal lead.
Just 34 seconds after scoring the eventual match winner, however, Randholm Luque was sent off after being shown his second yellow of the match, leaving the Greensboro squad down a man for the remaining 18:31 of action.
Brevard officially took six shots down the stretch of the match, and added several attacking build-ups, but the Tornados were unable to find the equalizer as the Pride sealed their one-goal victory.
BC held a narrow 17-14 shot advantage in the competitive contest, with GC keeping a 5-3 edge in on-target attempts. Brevard took eight corner kicks to Greensboro's seven, while Soren Deweer made a total of four saves in net. Roi Abutbul and Pedro Sena each took four shots, with Matteo Nioi and Vitor Razera adding three apiece.
The Tornados will look to bounce back on Saturday at 6 p.m. as Brevard hosts William Peace.
