BREVARD, N.C. - Two Brevard College women's soccer players earned weekly accolades from the USA South Conference as the league announced its first weekly honors of the 2026-27 calendar.
 
Janie Steele earned her first career Player of the Week award, while Abby Nunez secured her first Defender of the Week honor of the season.
 
Steele, a second-year Tornado from Trussville, Alabama, scored the lone and eventual game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Piedmont last week. Steele's goal came in the 38th minute and was good enough to defeat the Lions who were picked second in the Collegiate Conference of the South's Preseason Poll.
 
Nunez, a Homestead, Florida senior goalkeeper, notched a shutout in the only contest for the Tornados last week, a 1-0 victory over Piedmont. Nunez stopped all four shots she faced in the victory.
 
For Nunez, the award marked the eighth time in her collegiate career that she was selected as the USA South Defender of the Week, while Steele secured the first weekly honor of her career.
 
The Tornados are back in action at Oglethorpe on Wednesday at 6 p.m. before the home-opener on Saturday at 7 p.m. vs. Guilford.
