Tornados Fall to Regionally-Ranked Lincoln Memorial, 2-0, in SAC Play

HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Brevard women's soccer team fell to regionally-ranked Lincoln Memorial University, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at LMU Soccer Complex in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) action. With the loss, the Tornados fall to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in SAC play while the Railsplitters, who were ranked sixth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Southeast Region poll, improve to 6-2 and 4-1.

Hunter Denney had one shot on goal for the Tornados while Kimiko Nakanishi and Anita Maryskova each registered a shot. Jocelyn Springer turned away seven shots in the loss.

Michelle Hunter tallied a goal and an assist for the Railsplitters while Nicole McKinney also tallied. Fernanda Miaci also had an assist while Kayla Stephens played 76:44 in net and turned away the one shot she faced. Kathryn Lundy played the remainder of the game without facing a shot in goal for Lincoln Memorial.

Lincoln Memorial jumped out to a 1-0 lead when McKinney received a pass by Hunter and tallied at 17:23 of the first half. The Railsplitters went on to fire 13 shots to finish the half, with two being saved by Springer and one ball hitting the post.

Nakanishi fired a shot towards the goal in the 49th minute for the Tornados but her shot was blocked by a Lincoln Memorial defender. The Railsplitters then extended their lead in the 62nd minute on a header by Hunter for her sixth goal of the season. Miaci contributed with an assist.

The Tornados lone shot on goal came in at 72:02 by Denney but Stephens was there to preserve the shutout for Lincoln Memorial, which outshot the visitors 31-3 in the game.

The Tornados return to action on Wednesday, October 8 as they take on the Pioneers of Tusculum College at 5 p.m. in Greeneville, Tennessee.
