Strong play in doubles match key in 7-2 win over Assumption

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Brevard College men's tennis team earned its second win of the season by defeating Assumption College (1-3), 7-2, on Monday afternoon at the Chaplin Park Tennis Club. Play was delayed because of rain in the area.

The Tornados (2-2) won all but two matches in singles competition. David Taggart defeated Chris Waung at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-2 while Nathan Sabate defeated Viljami Rahnasto, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3. Rory Northam earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Casey Hodor at No. 4 singles.

Christoph Plasa played one of his best matches of the season at No. 5 singles. He went on to defeat Jakob Zyiak 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 after falling behind in the first set.
Tom Knight defeated Richie Liell at No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-1 while Marco Leung defeated George Finch at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-1.

The Tornados swept all three doubles matches with Taggart and Northam teaming up at No. 1 doubles and defeating their counterparts 9-7. The combination of Sabate and Finch was good enough to defeate Leung and Zyiak at No. 2 doubles 8-4 while Plasa and Liell had the same score at No. 3 doubles against Hodor and Knight.

After taking a break on Tuesday, the Tornados will face Misericordia University on Wednesday. Click here for the results from today's match.
