HARROGATE, Tenn. - The combination of Samantha Smith and Brianna Taylor kept Brevard hitters off balance all afternoon as the Tornados mustered six total hits in 12 innings of play in a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Lincoln Memorial.

The Lady Railsplitters (20-18, 9-7 SAC) won the afternoon's first game by a 2-0 count before exploding for 16 runs in the second game, defeating Brevard (9-21, 2-14 SAC) 16-0 in a game shortened to five innings.

The Brevard bats never awoke as the Tornados combined to hit .150 (6-for-40) across the doubleheader, including an .095 (2-for-21) performance in the first contest. Lincoln Memorial got all the offense it would need in the second inning.

With runners on first and second and nobody out, catcher Savannah Couch lined a 1-0 offering from Jamie Hrobak through the right side to break a scoreless tie. An unearned run came in from third after a poor throw from the outfield following a flyout, giving the Lady Railsplitters a 2-0 advantage they would not relinquish.

Smith was dominant in the first game, earning a complete-game win while allowing a paltry two hits. She struck out four batters and walked a pair. The Tornados were unable to string together a legitimate offensive threat, getting a third-inning single from Lauren Parker and a fourth-inning bunt single by Kinny Davis but never putting multiple runners on base in an inning.

The second game saw the Lady Railsplitters jump on the Brevard pitching staff, notching three runs in the first, eight in the second, and five in the third to put the game out of reach. The Tornados put runners on the corners in the second and had hits in the first and third, but were unable to push a run across in the five-inning affair. Smith pitched the first two innings while Taylor allowed just one hit over the final three frames.

The Tornados return to action on Wednesday with a pair of games at Anderson. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
