SALISBURY, N.C. - The Brevard College softball team fell in a doubleheader on Saturday, dropping a pair of contests to Catawba 8-0 and 5-1.

Brevard (9-25, 2-18 SAC) was designated as the home team in both contests despite playing at Catawba's (25-15, 14-8 SAC) Whitley Field. Saturday's games had been originally scheduled to take place in Brevard, but heavy rain in Transylvania County this week necessitated a site change to Salisbury.

The first game saw Catawba use a three-run third and four-run fifth to pull away from Brevard and take an 8-0 decision in a shortened contest. The Indians' big blow came on designated player Emily Huneycutt's three-run bomb to left center in the fifth inning to stretch Catawba's lead to seven runs.

Indians' pitcher Carley Tysinger stymied the Brevard bats over the five-inning contest, allowing just two hits, both of which came off the bat of starting left fielder Lauren Parker. Tysinger also allowed a walk in the contest while striking out nine batters.

Tysinger continued her stellar work in the circle in the final game of the doubleheader, earning her second complete-game victory of the day. Brevard managed three hits off Tysinger in the second contest, including two infield singles. Jamie Hrobak pitched a complete game for the Tornados, surrendering five runs, only one of which was earned, on six hits.

Brevard was undone by a second-inning error with two outs and the bases loaded. A misplayed ball on the infield allowed two runs to score before a two-run double gave Catawba a 4-0 lead. The Tornados trimmed the advantage to 4-1 when Jill Gleeson pushed a bunt single to the right side of the infield and circled the bases on three wild pitches, but would get no closer. Catawba added an insurance run in the fourth while Tysinger sat down 13 of the last 14 Tornados she faced, including each of the last 10.

Brevard will conclude the 2015 season with a doubleheader at Coker Sunday afternoon beginning at 2:00.
