BREVARD, N.C. - Junior guard Stevie Williams (High Point, N.C.) posted a game-high 28 points Saturday afternoon in the Brevard College Tornados (2-14, 0-10 SAC) 85-67 South Atlantic Conference loss to the Newberry College Wolves (11-4, 7-3 SAC).

Williams finished 10-19 from the flooring, while shooting 2-3 from behind the three-point arc. While junior Shelby Parris (Burlington, N.J.) added 13 points, five rebounds and finished tied for a game-high with four steals. Senior Omar El Diraoui (Beirut, Lebanon) finished with nine points, while pulling in a game-high nine rebounds for the second-straight contest.

Newberry's Mason Spease finished with a team-high 22 points, while Marshall Lange and Gerald Evans each recorded double-digit point games with 19 and 13 points, respectively.

Williams would score the Tornados opening four points, before Spease would connect on his first three following a Xavier Hill layup to give the Wolves a 5-4 lead.

Following two minutes of scoreless basketball and a Newberry 6-0 run at the 16:20 mark, junior D.J. Bostick (Marietta, Ga.) would put the Tornados back into the score column, drilling his first three of the afternoon.

Brevard would pull back within two of the Wolves at 14-12 following another Bostick three, but Newberry would benefit from another 6-0 run to increase their lead to 20-12.

However, the feisty Tornados would not fall off the beat, as the blue and white stormed their way back into the matchup, tying the game at 23-23 on a Parris basket.

Newberry would capitalize on a 15-0 run to take a 38-23 lead with just over three minutes remaining in the first half, however the never die Tornados managed to cut the deficit back to seven points trailing 39-32 heading into the break.

The second half would belong to the Wolves as the Tornados would battle back and fourth with the Newberry, S.C. native keeping the game around a nine and 12 point Newberry advantage. As every time Brevard would make a run to close the gap, the Wolves would find an answer on their following possession to put the lead back to double-digits.

Newberry would take the first meeting of the year by a final of 85-67, benefiting from 38 points by the Wolves bench.

The Tornados will look to pick up their first conference victory of the season as they travel to Mars Hill this coming Wednesday, January 18 for a 8 p.m. tipoff with the Lions.
