Outstanding Results for Tornados at USA South Conference Championships Hosted by Brevard College

BREVARD, N.C. - For the first time in program history, the Brevard College track & field teams hosted the USA South Conference Men's and Women's Track & Field Championships at the Frank Patton Track located on the BC campus. 

BC collected 12 podium finishes on the men's side while adding six podiums on the women's side for 18 total. Brevard's men's team finished third with the women's side garnering a sixth-place team finish. 

Day one saw the Tornados garner eight total podium finishes in a highly-successful day for BC to open up the Championships in severely rainy conditions. 

Junior sprinter Channing Barker finished in second place in the women's 800-meter race with a time of 2:21.53 to garner Second-Team All-Conference honors. Sophomore hurdler Hylea-Layne Miller earned a pair of podium finishes for the women's team, finishing in third place in both the women's 100-meter hurdles (17.16), and the women's 400-meter hurdles (1:09.39). 

Junior distance runner Devon Brodmyer competed for the Tornados in the men's 800-meter race and placed on the podium with a second-place result, finishing the race in 1:58.07. Fellow junior distance runner Garrett Spangler earned two medals on day one with third-place finishes in the 10,000-meter race (35:08.16) and the 3,000-meter steeple chase (10:40.11). 

Freshman jumper/hurdler Jaxsen Wilkerson impressed in his first conference championship meet, finishing in second place in the men's 110-meter hurdles (16.52) and third in the men's long jump (6.46m) to round out the all-conference day one finishers for the Tornados. 

Day two saw improved weather conditions and several stellar results for the Tornados. 

In the Field category, Brevard took home a pair of medals as graduate thrower Gabriel Covington finished second in the men's shot put (12.52m). On the women's side, junior Isabell Musser earned a silver finish in the women's discus with a long throw of 32.90m to round out the throws category for the Tornados. 

BC freshman dual-sport standout Makayla Street impressed with a silver medal in the women's high jump (1.5m) and placed third in the 200-meter dash (25.98m), rounding out the women's medal award winners for the championship meet. 

Notably, BC's 4x400 meter relay women's team of Barker, Miller, Zoe Capps, and Sandra Diaz-Martinez broke the school record with a finish of 4:23.27. 

On the men's side in day two, BC's Reginald Taylor earned a third-place result in the men's 100-meter dash (11.30). Dalton Hawley finished in third place in the men's 1,500-meter race (4:08.67), while Brodmyer earned his second medal of the championships with a third-place finish in the men's 5,000-meter race (15:57.62). 

Brevard's 4x100 meter relay team of Luis Alvarez, Brooks Ashford, DeShawn Curtis, and Taylor finished third in the event with a finish time of 43.99 - with all four relay participants being a member of the BC football program. 

Wilkerson continued his strong championship meet performance with third-place results in men's high jump (1.85m) and triple jump (13.67). 

Other participants in the championship meet for the Tornados included RJ Everett, Michael Fader, Dylan Freeman, Justin King, Brennen Marsh, Owen Plucar, Grace Pukas, Seth Robinson, Imani Singleton, Ernest Smith II, Henry Tarte, and Noah Westbrook

BC's Alvarez and Pukas were named to the conference's All-Sportsmanship team following the conclusion of the meet.
