SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Brevard College men's and women's cross country teams competed Saturday morning amongst a competitive field at the Upstate XC Invite held at the Milliken Arboretum in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
A total of 192 runners competed in the women's race, while 199 racers finished in the men's competition. The field included several Division I schools, including Charleston Southern, Citadel, Davidson, Furman, Georgia State, South Carolina, Stetson, Western Carolina, Wofford and the event's host USC Upstate.
Senior
Channing Barker led Brevard with an impressive 54th place finish with a time of 19:13.8 amongst a crowded field in the Women's 5K. Senior
Sandra Diaz-Martinez (22:16.3) and
Haylea-Layne Miller (23:32.9) were the next fastest Tornados followed by
Ava Thrift (25:21.0),
Victoria Sylvester (28:03.5) and
Carleigh Garrett (33:05.6).
On the men's side in 8K competition,
Ethan Carlan was the top finishing Tornado, finishing in 167th place with a time of 29:37.4.
Shea Granger (30:02.4),
Owen Plucar (30:24.6) and
Colbin Hill (30:57.9) came next for Brevard College.
Adin DeJesus (32:30.7) and
Alex Simpson (35:58.8) rounded out BC's finishers.
Next up for Brevard College is the USA South Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 2 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
