ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Brevard College graduate student Channing Barker earned First-Team All-Conference honors with a fourth-place finish at the USA South Women's Cross Country Championships held Saturday in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.  In the team competition, Brevard placed fourth in the men's championships, while placing fifth on the women's side.  Brevard sophomore Ava Thrift was named to the USA South Women's Cross Country All-Sportsmanship Team.
 
Pfeiffer won the men's competition with Southern Virginia placing second, followed by Methodist and Brevard to round out the top-four.  Southern Virginia were crowned champions in the women's race, with Pfeiffer placing second and Mary Baldwin third.  Meredith finished fourth and BC fifth, ahead of Greensboro, Methodist and host N.C. Wesleyan in the women's competition.
 
Barker finished fourth in a field of 47 runners with a time of 23:34.6 in the women's 6K championship race.  The native of Dunlap, Tennessee placed just 17 seconds behind race winner Nicky Black of Mary Baldwin and a mere five seconds behind the event's third place performer.
 
Thrift (30th, 30:22.2) was the next highest Brevard women's finisher followed by senior Haylea-Layne Miller (33rd, 30:58).  Junior Victoria Sylvester (38th, 34:05.6) and freshman Carleigh Garrett (43rd, 37:43) rounded out the scoring for the Tornados.
 
In the men's 8K race, Shea Granger was the highest finishing Tornado with a time of 28:12.  Granger placed 15th with the performance, just one place shy of earning Honorable Mention All-Conference accolades.  BC's Ethan Carlan (30:09.8) and Colbin Hill (30:25.8) finished 26th and 27th respectively, followed by Owen Plucar (31st, 31:16), Adin DeJesus (31:14.5) and Matthew Harris (34th, 31:49.8).
 
Kaled Ruder of Southern Virginia won the men's race with a time of 25:34 with Pfeiffer's Sawyer Helms (25:42) placing second.
