Tornados Fall in Four Sets in Regular-Season Finale

Brevard Travels to #2 Salem on Tuesday

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Brevard College volleyball team (15-13, 7-11 USA South) competed in its regular-season finale, dropping a match in four sets to host William Peace (17-15, 9-9 USAS) on Saturday at the Hermann Athletic Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The Tornados conclude the regular season with 15 overall wins, the most single-season victories for the BC volleyball program since 2009.  With their regular-season performance, Brevard qualifies for the USA South Conference Tournament for the second straight year.

In Saturday's season finale, Brevard won the first set 25-17, before dropping the next three sets to the Pacers.

Seniors Ashley Hoxit and Makenna Parkins each recorded 13 kills to lead the Brevard attack with freshman Emma Fontana adding nine kills.  Freshman setter Izzy Boulay led the BC distribution with 36 assists.  Fontana recorded four service aces to go along with aces by Hoxit and Lance to round out the offensive attack for the Tornados.

Senior Bailey Lance was BC's top defender with 16 digs.  Boulay registered 11 digs with Hoxit adding nine more on the defensive end.
Jordan Juanes led the pacers with 14 kills, while setter Maegan Brylski recorded a match-high 37 assists.

Brevard built an 18-11 lead in the first set following back-to-back kills from Parkins.  With BC leading later in the set 22-17, the Tornados reeled off three straight points.  Hoxit started the run with a kill off an assist by Boulay, followed by a kill from Justine St. Louis.  With Hoxit serving for match point, Parkins came up with a sensational block of a Pacer attack to seal the set win.

The Pacers would go on to win the next set 25-20 followed by scores of 25-16 and 25-13 in the final two sets.

Brevard will await official pairings for the USA South Conference Volleyball Tournament which begins with the First Round on Tuesday.  Stay tuned to usasouth.net and bctornados.com for information as it is released.
