Box Score BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's tennis team (4-12, 3-3 USA South) defeated conference rival Southern Virginia University (2-11, 2-4 USAS) in a tight 5-4 contest on Saturday at the McCoy Tennis Complex.  With the win, the Tornados clinched home court advantage in the First Round of the USA South Conference Tournament where BC will host SVU on Monday at 11 a.m.
 
The victory came on Senior Day for Brevard College.  Seniors Devin Horton and James Srsich were honored in a special Senior Day ceremony before Saturday's match.
 
The match proved to be a back-and-forth affair between the two teams.  BC's number one doubles team of junior Bryce Bernitt and freshman Hayden LeBlanc defeated SVU's duo of Jeffrey Purcell and Abrams Robbins in a competitive 8-5 result.  SVU went on to win number two doubles, however the Tornados took no 3 doubles due to the Knights not fielding a third team.
 
Ahead 2-1, junior Brian Seon won number six singles unopposed to put BC ahead 3-1.  Horton took care of business on his senior day with a 6-1, 6-3 straight-set victory in no. 3 singles.
 
Bernitt then went three sets in a battle with Purcell.  After dropping the first set 1-6, the native of Flowery Branch, Georgia bounced back with a  6-4 win to force a third set.  Bernitt then put the match away and clinched the team victory with a 6-2 third-set win.
 
With the completion of the conference regular season, the seeding for the entire 2024 USA South Men's Tennis Tournament has been determined. The tournament consists of the top-six teams in each the Conference and is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 22 and Wednesday, April 24 with first round matches hosted by the higher-seeded team in that matchup.
 
The semifinals and finals are set for Friday-Saturday, April 26-27 on the campus of N.C. Wesleyan University. The top-two seeds receive first round byes.

First Round
Match 1: Monday, April 22 - #5 Southern Virginia at #4 Brevard - 11 a.m.
Match 2: Wednesday, April 24 - #6 William Peace at #3 Methodist - 2:30pm
Semifinals - Friday, April 26 (all contests played at N.C. Wesleyan University)
Match 1 Winner vs. #1 N.C. Wesleyan – 2 p.m.
Match 2 Winner vs. #2 Pfeiffer – 2 p.m.
Final - Saturday, April 27 (played at N.C. Wesleyan University)
Semifinal Winners – 2 p.m.
 
Brevard will host Southern Virginia in a rematch on Monday at 11 a.m. at the McCoy Tennis Complex in the First Round of the USA South Conference Tournament.  Admission is free to the public.
