Brevard College Football Selected Third in Preseason Poll

BC Received Most First-Place Votes in USA South

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College football team was selected to finish in third place in the annual USA South Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. The Tornados finished with 40 total points and had more first-place votes (three) than any other team in the league.

Huntingdon was placed atop the rankings thanks to receiving 43 total points and one the possible eight first place votes. The Hawks finished last season with a 5-3 Conference record, good for a fourth-place tie in the standings. With defending League champions, Maryville, departing the USA South after last year, this year seems to be wide open. Belhaven was in the second spot in the poll with 41 points and two first place votes while Brevard came in third, just one point behind with three first place selections. Finally, LaGrange rounded out the top-half of the rankings in fourth with 35 points and the final two first place votes.

In seven seasons playing USA South Conference competition, Brevard is 31-15, and its .674 conference winning percentage is the best out of current USA South members with four-or-more years in the league.

BC, under the direction of Head Coach Bill Khayat who enters his ninth season, opens up its 2025 schedule at home on Saturday, September 6 at 1 p.m. against Kentucky Christian University at Ives-Lemel Family Field. Brevard finished 2024 with six victories, the program's first six-win season since 2021.

BC's 2024 win percentage was its fourth-best in program history, and the Tornados finished in third place in the USA South Conference, looking to build upon that success in 2025. Robert Dorsey, who recently was named a Preseason All-American by D3football.com, was selected as the USA South Defensive Player of the Year, nine Tornados qualified for All-Conference honors, and a program-record four Tornados earned five spots on the D3football.com All-Region 3 Team.
