Brevard Opens Indoor Track Season in Tryon

MILL SPRING, N.C. – Brevard kicked off its 2026 indoor track and field season with a

competitive showing at the Tryon International Winter Classic on Friday and Saturday.

The Tornados started the weekend in the men's weight throw, with Antonio King leading Brevard in the event, finishing with a 15.00m mark to place 13th. Henry Tarte followed in 21st with a 13.79m tally. Cameron Eubanks finished 38th with an 11.78m total, shortly followed by Noah

Westbrook in 39th (11.71m) and Donningtun Walters in 46th (10.04m).

The evening continued in the men's high jump, where Tyrell Bailey led BC with a total of 5'10.75", finishing 14th. Jaxsen Wilkerson placed 18th in the event.

In Friday's men's 1000-meter race, Adin DeJesus placed 20th with a time of 2:55.19. In the men's 5000-meter race, Shea Grainger (16:32.89) and Ethan Carlan (16:52.23) finished 18th. and 19th, respectively.

Brevard kicked off Saturday's action with the women's weight throw, led by Kinsley

Burris-Whitesides, tallying an 11.50m total for a 28th place finish. Tori Gates finished 41st with a 7.65m total.

In the men's long jump, Tyrell Bailey led the Tornados with a 21'0.50" total, good for 17th. Zyrell Abercrombie followed in 28th (20'1.75"), while Jaxsen Wilkerson (20.0.25') finished 30th and Ty Breeze (19'10.25") placed 33rd. In the women's jump, BC was led by Makynna McDonald in 22nd with a 16'3" tally. Imani Singleton shortly followed in 24th (15'11.75") and Katie Woody

finished 33rd (14'6.50").

In the men's triple jump, Tyrell Bailey placed 8th with a 44'6" tally, followed by Ty Breeze in 15th (41'7.75"). The lone Tornado in the women's triple jump, Makynna McDonald, finished 20th (33'6.75").

Brevard's busy Saturday continued in the women's 60-meter hurdles, where Makynna

McDonald led the Tornados in the prelims, finishing 23rd with a time of 10.35. Elizabeth Foster shortly followed in 25th at 10.51.

In the men's 60-meter, Zyrell Abercrombie paced BC in 47th with a time of 7.33. Kayden Branch followed in 57th at 7.49, while Develle Morgan (61st, 7.95), Courtney Hamlin (62nd, 8.15), and Alex Mabry (63rd, 8.25) rounded out the Tornados in the event. In the women's 60-meter,

Serenity Jordan led BC in the prelims, finishing 30th with a time of 8.27, shortly followed by Akeelah Hurley in 31st at 8.33. Katie Woody finished in 46th with a time of 9.10.

In the men's 1 mile, Ethan Carlan led the Tornados in 31st with a time of 4:46.34, followed by Shea Grainger in 33rd at 4:49.40. Brevard's lone competitor in the women's 1 mile, AJ Fisher, finished 36th with a time of 6:04.42.

Adin DeJesus was Brevard's lone runner in the 800-meter, finishing 29th with a time of 2:14.59. In the men's 200-meter, Kayden Branch led the way in the prelims, finishing 52nd at 23.61. Zyrell Abercrombie (24.22) followed in 59th, while Develle Morgan (26.54) finished 66th and Courtney Hamlin (27.43) placed 67th.

The day concluded in the women's 200-meter, where Makynna McDonald finished 20th with a time of 26.17. Imani Singleton (28.70) finished 57th, followed by Serenity Jordan (28.78) in 58th. Akeelah Hurley rounded out BC in 68th (30.70).

After a competitive opening to the season, Brevard will look forward to the JDL Banked is Better Invitational on Sunday, January 25th, in Winston-Salem, N.C.
