Tornados Compete at Mid-Winter Collegiate Invite

MILL SPRING, N.C. – Brevard indoor track & field continued its 2026 campaign, competing at a high level in the Mid-Winter Collegiate Invite.

Brevard kicked off the weekend on Friday in the men's weight throw, with Henry Tarte (13.8m) leading the Tornados with a 22nd place finish. Cameron Eubanks (12.64m, 31st), Donningtun Walters (12.40m, 34th), and Noah Westbrook (10.20m, 50th) also delivered solid efforts for BC.

In the men's triple jump, Jaxsen Wilkerson shined, finishing fifth with a 14.23m mark. Reigning USA South Rookie of the Week Tyrell Bailey finished in eighth, posting a 13.94m mark. Ty Breeze placed 26th with a 12.14m tally. Makynna McDonald was the lone competitor for the women in the event, finishing 11th with a 10.74m mark.

BC's Friday concluded in the women's shotput, as Anne Herring (8.33m, 45th) and Tori Gates (8.27m, 46th) finished in close succession in the event.

Saturday's action started with the men's mile, as sophomore Ethan Carlan placed 36th with a time of 4:56.5. Freshman Molly Perry impressed on the women's side, placing 18th with a time of 6:18.75.

Brevard's solid morning continued with a stellar effort from Shea Grainger in the men's 3000-meter, finishing in the top-10 with an eighth place finish, crossing at 9:23.64.

Brevard had three competitors in the women's 60-meter hurdles, led by Makynna McDonald in 24th with a time of 10.24. Elizabeth Foster shortly followed in 27th at 10.27, and Katie Woody finished 32nd at 11.50. Jaxsen Wilkerson continued an impressive weekend in the men's 60-meter hurdles, finishing 12th at 8.75. 

In the women's 60-meter, Akeelah Hurley led BC in 36th, crossing the finish line at 8.16. Serenity Jordan placed 49th, finishing at 8.35. On the men's side in the same event, Zyrell Abercrombie led Brevard in 54th with a time of 7.32. Kayden Branch (7.39, 59th), Jeffrey McDougald (7.49, 65th), and Develle Morgan (7.85, 68th) followed for the Tornados.

In the men's 800-meter, Adin DeJesus led BC with a 42nd place finish, crossing at 2:15.18. Colbin Hill quickly followed with a time of 2:16.21, finishing 44th. AJ Fisher was the lone competitor in the women's 800-meter, finishing 37th with a time of 2:41.60.

In the men's 200-meter, Zyrell Abercrombie placed 50th with a time of 24.04, followed by Develle Morgan in 57th at 26.17.

In the men's 4x400-meter relay, the Tornados finished seventh at 3:50.31. The women also finished seventh in the same event at 4:30.89. The relays concluded the track events for the weekend. 

Saturday's field events started with the men's long jump, as Jaxsen Wilkerson placed 25th with a 6.41m mark. Tyrell Bailey and Zyrell Abercrombie finished 27th and 28th, respectively. Bailey posted a 6.31m mark, while Abercrombie came in at 6.30m. Ty Breeze rounded out BC in 50th with a mark of 5.94m.

In the men's shot put, Noah Westbrook led the Tornados in 14th with a 13.35m mark. Antonio King shortly followed in 19th with a mark of 13.06m. Cameron Eubanks (12.12m, 35th), Henry Tarte (11.54m, 43rd), and Donningtun Walters (11.18m, 49th) followed for the Tornados.

Makynna McDonald impressed again in the long jump on Saturday, finishing fifth with a mark of 5.62m. McDonald's mark in the long jump was right behind four Division I athletes from College of Charleston and Gardner-Webb.

Brevard's weekend concluded with the women's weight throw, where Kinsley Burris-Whitesides led BC in 20th with a 12.24m mark. Tori Gates finished 49th at 7.90m.

After another solid weekend, Brevard looks forward to the East Coast Elites, heading back to Mill Spring, North Carolina, on Friday and Saturday.
