MONTREAT, N.C. – The Brevard College Track & Field Team kicked off its outdoor season at the Montreat College Open on Friday and Saturday.
The Tornados started the weekend in the men's 10000-meter race, where Ethan Carlan placed fourth with a time of 33:12.04. In the women's 1500-meter, freshman Molly Perry finished 19th at 5:40.10. Colbin Hill led BC on the men's side in the 1500-meter, placing 30th at 4:36.91. Adin DeJesus followed at 4:49.24.
In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Makynna McDonald led with a fourth-place finish at 17.09. Elizabeth Foster followed in fifth at 17.60, and Katie Woody placed sixth at 19.21. In the men's 110-meter hurdles, Jaxsen Wilkerson placed sixth at 15.90.
Brevard's day continued in the men's 400-meter dash, where Zyrell Abercrombie slotted in at 22nd at 54.79, followed by Jeffrey McDougald in 26th at 58.23.
Akeelah Hurley impressed on the women's side, finishing third in the 100-meter dash at 12.71. Zyrell Abercrombie finished 22nd in the same event at 11.45, immediately followed by Jeffrey McDougald in 23rd at 11.50. Develle Morgan rounded out the Tornados in the event, finishing 28th at 11.78.
In the men's 800-meter, Brevard's lone competitor, Owen Plucar, finished 11th, clocking in at 2:02.55.
Later in the day, Serenity Jordan placed sixth in the women's 200-meter, coming in at 26.85. Imani Singleton shortly followed in 12th at 27.55. On the men's side, Courtney Hamlin finished 23rd at 26.66.
Shea Grainger, the lone competitor in the men's 5000-meter, impressed with a sixth-place finish at 16:21.94 to wrap up the track events.
The field events started with the women's hammer throw, where Kinsley Burris-Whitesides finished in the top ten, placing fifth at 40.68m, while Tori Gates followed in 18th at 24.08m. On the men's side in the same event, Donningtun Walters led with a fifth-place finish at 43.75m, followed by Henry Tarte in 11th at 37.96m, and Noah Westbrook in 13th at 37.60m.
In the women's discus, Tori Gates paced BC with a 15th-place finish at 22.54m. Anne Herring followed in 18th at 17.66m. Brevard had a handful of competitors on the men's side, led by Donningtun Walters in ninth at 42.48m. Henry Tarte followed in 16th at 37.97m, while Noah Westbrook placed 24th at 32.77m, and Develle Morgan placed 31st at 25.80m.
Makynna McDonald impressed in the women's long jump, placing second at 5.35m. Imani Singleton followed, finishing eighth at 4.71m. On the men's side, Tyrell Bailey placed fourth at 6.52m, followed by Ty Breeze in 11th at 5.89m.
In the women's triple jump, Brevard was once again paced by Makynna McDonald, placing third at 11.18m, followed by Imani Singleton in fifth at 9.87m. On the men's side, Tyrell Bailey earned the top podium spot, placing first at 13.91m. Ty Breeze and Jaxsen Wilkerson followed in succession, with Breeze finishing fifth at 13.02m and Wilkerson in sixth at 12.87m.
In the women's shot put, Brevard was led by Anne Herring, who finished ninth at 8.80m. Tori Gates shortly followed in 11th at 8.63m. On the men's side, Noah Westbrook led the Tornados, finishing fourth at 14.28m. Antonio King followed, placing tenth at 12.82m, and Donningtun Walters finished 11th at 12.64m. Henry Tarte rounded out the Tornados in the event, placing 22nd at 9.69m.
The event concluded with the javelin throw, with Katie Woody placing sixth at 26.43m and Jaxsen Wikerson finishing fifth at 43.83m on the men's side.
Brevard will look to build on a successful weekend at the Blue Bear Invitational on Saturday, March 28th.
