BREVARD, N.C.-Brevard's Erin Rollins collected a match-high 10 kills at No. 14 Wingate on Friday night, but it was the Bulldogs who came away with a 3-0 victory in Cuddy Arena. Wingate took the match by scores of 25-19, 25-12 and 25-16.
Rollins hit .320 on the night, while Fatima Gharachorloo added seven kills. Kayla Hanus handed out 15 assists, and Aleksandra Vrvillo collected nine digs for BC.
A kill from Bailey Hayes, along with a WU error gave Brevard a 12-10 lead in the opening set. A kill and an ace from Wingate's Shelly Stumpff then put the Bulldogs in front 14-13.
Hayes later tied the set at 18-18 with another kill after the teams traded points. The Bulldogs then scored six unanswered points to take a 24-18 lead before a Stumpff kill capped the opening frame.
The opening set saw 14 ties and four lead changes.
Wingate took a commanding 10-3 lead to begin the second set before three straight points for the Tornados brought BC back within striking distance at 10-6. The Bulldogs then went on a 8-3 run before closing the set on a 5-0 run.
BC trailed only 12-9 in the third set before the Bulldogs rattled off eight straight points to take a 20-9 advantage and put the set out of BC's reach.
The Tornados next travel to Coker on Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. match with the Cobras.
