HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Brevard College's women's tennis team concluded its spring break schedule on Friday evening against Belmont Abbey, losing 8-1. With the result, the Tornados are now 2-7 overall.
In doubles action, Rachael Stanford and Sam Miranda teamed up at the second flight, falling 8-0 against Brylee Seitz and Alex Weber. Katie Hatter and Kristen Rathbun were the next tilt to end, as the duo lost 8-1 against Rachele Subik and Kiersten Cox on court three. Doubles play concluded with the Tornados top pairing of Anita Maryskova and Nirvanna Silva out together a great effort, but not enough in a 8-4 result against Lillie Mehan and Teagan McNamara.
Belmont Abbey (4-6) continued its strong start in singles play, as the Crusaders' Subik bested Miranda 6-0, 6-0 on court three. Mehan clinched the Crusaders victory at the fourth flight with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Stanford. Silva gave Cox a tough battle in their first set at the second position, but fell short 7-6 before losing 6-2.
Maryskova earned the Tornados its only point of the contest, cruising to a 6-1 triumph in set one and withstanding a comeback attempt from Daria DeFrench at the top flight in a 7-5 win.
Hatter and Claire Dysart were the final matches to end, with 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 losses on courts five and six.
The Tornados return to Brevard for a home match against the California University of Pennsylvania on Tuesday, Mar. 8. First serve is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
