HARROGATE, TENN. - The Brevard College Men's Soccer team (2-2, 0-1 SAC) opened South Atlantic Conference play Wednesday afternoon with a 2-0 loss to the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters (4-1, 1-0) as the Tornados surrendered two goals to first-team all-preseason selection Danilo da Silva.
Lincoln Memorial opened the afternoons scoring at the 29:49 mark as da Silva collected a ball from teammate Victor Peres that allowed him to fire a shot over the arms of Tornados keeper Heath Turner (Kansas City, Mo.) for the opening 1-0 score.
The Railsplitters would add one more score in the second half on a double assist from George Burne and Philip Wong that found the feet of an awaiting da Silva in front of the Brevard goal to put Lincoln Memorial up 2-0.
Brevard would finish the event with five shots as Henrique Joaquim (Jundai, Brazil) finished with two attempts and the Tornados lone shot on goal, while Gabriel Garcia (Vinhedo, Brazil), Winston Haddock (Mooresville, N.C.) and Alexander Gerondidakis (Merritt Island, Fla.) contributed a shot attempt each.
Turner played the entire 90 minutes in net for the Tornados as the Kansas City, Mo. native turned away six shots on the afternoon, including five saves in the second half, as the Railsplitters would finish the matchup with a 12-5 shot advantage.
Brevard will open the new artificial turf facility Saturday, September 17 at 2p.m. as they play host to Coker College with the hope of getting back into the win column and securing a second straight bid to SAC postseason play.
