GREENEVILLE, TENN. - Following a 45 point opening half outburst to begin the night, the Brevard College Tornados (2-17, 0-13 SAC) were unable to continue scorching start, falling by a final of 85-70 to the Tusculum College Pioneers (8-11, 5-8) on the road Wednesday evening.
Junior guard Stevie Williams (High Points, N.C.) led the Tornados with 15 points and four assists, while fellow classmates D.J. Bostick (Marietta, Ga.) and Shelby Parris (Burlington, N.J.) each finished with double-digit scoring totals as Bostick posted 13 points on 5-8 shooting and 3-6 from behind the three-point arc, while Parris netted 11.
Following a rough shooting stretch, senior forward Omar El Diraoui (Beirut, Lebanon) returned to his mid-season shooting for, as the senior finished a perfect 3-3 from behind the arc, while senior Harry Singh (Hanover Park, Ill.) turned in one of his best offensive performances of the year, finishing 3-5 from the floor for six points.
Tusculum was led by Kendall Patterson who finished with a game-high 21 points, while Trey Blevins came off the bench to score 15 points, the majority of which came down the stretch in the final half of play.
Following a Cory Fagan three-point basket to open the scoring, a Singh layup would put the Tornados on the board, before a back-to-back three's by Parris and El Diraoui gave BC an 8-5 advantage.
Williams would connect on his first two baskets of the game on the Tornados next two possessions to extend the lead to 12-7, before Tusculum managed to claw their way back into the game and regain the lead at 13-12.
Tusculum managed to increase their lead to five points at 26-21, before Bostick would connect on a JaMarquis Johnson (Minneola, Fla.) pass from three-point range to trim the lead to two points.
Brevard would control a slight 45-42 lead heading into halftime, as the Tornados connected on a season best nine three-pointers in the first half, going 64 percent from behind the three-point arc and 56 percent from the field.
The second half would belong to the Pioneers as the Greeneville, Tenn. native finished the half shooting 57 percent from the floor to the Tornados 29 percent.
The Tornados would manage to cut the Pioneers 24 point gap late, but hot shooting and a late of BC luck would allow Tusculum to escape with the 85-70 win.
Brevard will take to the road again this coming weekend as they pack up for one of their longest South Atlantic Conference trips, heading to Hartsville, S.C. to battle the Coker College Cobras with tipoff schedule to follow the women's game, scheduled for 2 p.m.
