Tornados Visit LaGrange for USA South Matchup with Panthers

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College football team (4-2, 2-2 USAS) returns to action this Saturday, November 2 when the Tornados head to LaGrange, Georgia for a USA South Conference test against the LaGrange Panthers (3-4, 1-3 USAS). Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Callaway Stadium.

The Tornados are coming off a big conference road victory, 26-20, over N.C. Wesleyan College last Saturday in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The victory ended a two-game slide for the Tornados, who currently sit tied-for-third in the USA South standings.

Sophomore quarterback Dalton Cole ran for two touchdowns in the victory, while Louis Williams III enjoyed a big day on the defensive side of the ball with two sacks and a forced fumble. Freshman defensive back Rook Tate returned an interception 82 yards for a touchdown that proved a pivotal score for Brevard. Tate was named USA South Conference Football Defensive Rookie of the Week following his efforts last weekend.

Brevard now turns its attention to the final three contests of the season. One more win for the 2019 Tornado squad would guarantee the program's most wins in a single season since 2009 (seven wins), and wins in two of its next three contests would secure the lowest regular season total in the loss column since Brevard joined NCAA competition.

The Tornados continue to rank towards the top of the conference in several individual and team statistical categories. Individually, Dante Anderson ranks sixth in total tackles (53) and fifth in solo tackles (33). Junior transfer Steffon Canady has racked up the third-most sacks (six) in the USA South, while four different Tornados - Quentin Jackson, Joc Pledger, Wesley Ross, and Rook Tate - are tied for sixth with two interceptions.

As a team, the Tornados are second in tackles (75.3) and third in rushing yards allowed-per-game (126). Brevard's 14 interceptions lead the USA South, with LaGrange's 10 picks ranking second, four behind the Tornados.

Saturday's battle pits two of the most havoc-causing defenses in the USA South, as both the Tornados and Panthers have caused a total of 18 turnovers.

Following Brevard's matchup with LaGrange this weekend, the Tornados will return home for Senior Day at Brevard Memorial Stadium on Saturday, November 9. Brevard will face off with conference foe Averett for a 5 p.m. kickoff before concluding its regular season on Saturday, November 16 in Greensboro, North Carolina against Greensboro College at 2 p.m.
