BEREA, Ky. - The Brevard College Women's Tennis team (5-4, 1-0 USAS) won its USA South Conference opener in resounding fashion with a 9-0 win over host Berea on Saturday afternoon at the Wilson Evans Tennis Complex in Berea, Kentucky. The Tornados did not lose a set en route to winning all nine matches on the day.
Freshman
Eleanor Flannery remained undefeated in singles play as a collegiate player, while
Kelsey Kushner extended her singles winning streak to five matches. Flannery, Kushner and the entire Tornados squad were dominant throughout the day to start conference play 1-0.
The Tornados rolled through doubles play, sweeping all three matches without losing a single game. In number one doubles, Brevard's team of Kushner and
Samantha Sepe cruised, 8-0, over Jaden Johnson and Agnes Dotse. The number two team of
Darden King and
Jen Cox swept its match, 8-0, over Erin Goodpaster and Emma Lee Nelson. The team of Flannery and
Margaret Correll swept its match as well, an 8-0 win over Eulalia Garcia and Sharon Ngassa in No. 3 doubles.
Sepe played No. 1 singles for the Tornados and did not lose a game, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Goodpaster. In No. 2 singles, Kushner won for the fifth straight time with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Dotse.
King won No. 3 singles over Johnson and Correll defeated Nelson in No. 4 singles with both players winning by identical 6-0, 6-1 scores.
Flannery continued her undefeated play in collegiate singles competition with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Garcia in number five singles.
Carmen Boone represented the Tornados in No. 6 singles and did not lose a game with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Nagassa.
Brevard returns to action with a match vs. Maryville at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the McCoy Tennis Complex.
