MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Brevard College women's tennis team earned a resounding 8-1 victory over host Pfeiffer University on Sunday afternoon in Misenheimer, North Carolina. The match concluded the Fall portion of the 2019-20 schedule for the Tornados women's tennis squad under the direction of Head Coach Brad Jones.
The Tornados jumped out to a 3-0 lead in doubles play, then won five of the six singles matches to take the team victory.
The number one doubles team of Samantha Sepe and Alli Kogoy defeated the number one team of the Falcons, 8-2. The number two and three doubles teams for Brevard were even more dominant, each posting 8-0 wins. Hamrick Perry and Margaret Correll blanked the Falcons, 8-0 in no. 2 doubles, while Jen Cox and Sarah Iocovozzi also did not lose a game in their perfect match. In total, the three teams of the Tornados outscored Pfeiffer 24-2 in games in doubles play.
The Tornados continued their winning ways in singles play with victories in five matches, with all five wins coming in straight sets as well. Sepe won 6-0, 6-4 in number one singles over Pfeiffer's top singles performer.
BC's Cox (6-4, 6-3) and Perry (6-3, 6-2) won in straight sets in number two and three singles respectively. Eleanor Flannery put together a strong 6-3, 6-4 victory in number five singles, while Correll won in straight sets as well in number six singles. Kogoy battled her opponent to three sets in number two singles, dropping a third set tiebreaker, 10-5.
The Brevard College women's tennis team will return to action with the start of the spring schedule with a home match vs. Southern Wesleyan on February 1, 2020 at the McCoy Tennis Complex. Stay tuned to bctornados.com for the latest schedule updates for the Tornados' Spring season.
