BEREA, Ky. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (8-9, 2-1 USAS) swept host Berea College (0-6, 0-4 USAS) by a score of 9-0 in a USA South Conference match in Berea, Kentucky. With the win, the Tornados have now won six of their last seven overall matches.
Brevard swept through all nine of its matches, not dropping a single set in the decisive victory.
The Tornados opened up the afternoon by blanking their opponent 8-0 in number one doubles. BC's no. 1 doubles team of junior Hamrick Perry and freshman Sophie Trantham were once again superb, winning every game in their match to set the tone for the entire competition.
Junior Brooke Garland and freshman Hannah Hersh then teamed up for no. 2 doubles and took care of business with an 8-2 victory. BC's number three doubles team of junior Alli Kogoy and sophomore Melody Ferguson completed the sweep of doubles play with a 8-3 win.
Ahead 3-0 following doubles play, the Tornados were equally impressive in singles competition. Three of BC's singles players did not drop a game as the Tornados outscored the Mountaineers 72-12 in games.
Kogoy (no. 3 singles), Garland (no. 4) and Trantham (no. 5) all won 6-0, 6-0. Hersh won no. 1 singles 6-3, 6-1, while Perry was victorious 6-1, 6-4 in no. 2 singles. Ferguson completed the overall sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 win in number six singles.
Brevard returns to USA South Conference action with a road match at Piedmont University on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in Demorest Georgia.
