BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (12-4, 5-2 USAS) fell 9-0 to visiting Methodist (10-4, 7-0 USAS) on Saturday afternoon in the regular-season home finale at the McCoy Tennis Complex.
The defeat snapped a five-game win streak for the Tornados dating back to a victory over Mary Baldwin on March 25.
Number one doubles was a highly competitive match as Brevard's
Hannah Hersh and
Alli Kogoy battled Toni Laney and Veva Willocks. The Monarchs tandem would ultimately pull away from the Tornados to take the 8-4 win.
Leading 3-0 entering singles play, Methodist cruised in singles play to clinch the team victory. Laney defeated Hersh 6-2, 6-3 in no. 1 singles to go along with straight-set wins in number two, three, four and six singles.
A battle ensued in no. 5 singles as Perry faced off with MU's Luciana Forma. Perry won the first set 6-4 before dropping set number two 6-3. In the tiebreaker, Forma prevailed with a 10-7 score to clinch the win and complete the sweep for the visitors.
Brevard will return to action on Tuesday with a road conference match at Salem in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
