ROANOKE, Va. – Graduate student
Channing Barker won in 800 meters for the second straight event to lead the Brevard College Indoor Track & Field team at the Joe LaRocco Invitational held Saturday in Roanoke, Virginia.
Barker raced to the win with a time of 2:22.09 to top a field of 45 runners in the women's 800 meters at the event hosted by Roanoke College. Barker won the 800 in her last event as well, taking the gold at the Bast-Cregger Multi-Invitational on February 1 in Salem, Virginia. On Saturday, she edged second-place performer Claire Keefe of Radford by a mere 0.57 seconds to capture the victory.
A native of Dunlap, Tennessee, Barker also raced in the Women's 1 Mile where she placed seventh with a personal-best time of 5:19.34.
Also on the women's side, junior
Imani Singleton earned a top-ten finish with a 10th-place result in the long jump, leaping 4.84 meters. Senior
Haylea-Layne Miller placed 28th with a 4.33-meter long jump and 24th in the Women's 200 meters with a time of 28:72. Freshman
Elizabeth Foster also competed in the long jump, placing 30th with a mark of 4.17 meters.
In women's throws, freshman
Kinsley Burris-Whitesides finished 19th with an effort of 11.74 meters in the weight throw. Sophomore
KJ Henderson placed 30th in shot put with a toss of 8.90 meters, while Burris-Whitesides finished 36th in the event.
On the men's side in the weight throw, sophomore
Antonio King came up big with a sixth-place result on a 14.37 meter effort.
Donningtun Walters (14th) and
Cameron Eubanks (18th) each finished in the top-20 with Henry Tarte (23rd) and
Noah Westbrook (28th) each competing as well in the weight throw.
Westbrook (13.73 meters) and Eubanks (13.39 meters) finished in eighth and ninth place respectively in Men's Shot Put. King placed 14th in shot put with a throw of 12.51 meters with Tarte (31st) and Walters (40th) also competing.
Running action for the Tornados on the men's side included sophomore
Shea Granger (29th, 9:40.55) and freshman
Ethan Carlan (38th, 10:02.38) racing in the Men's 3000 meters. Freshman
Jeffrey McDougald placed 56th (25:35) in the Men's 200 meters, while junior
Seth Robinson posted a 1:01.63 in the Men's 400 meters, good for a 56th place result.

Adin DeJesus,
Owen Plucar and Granger raced to a sixth-place result in the Men's Distance Medley Relay with a time of 11:47.73.
Brevard will conclude its Indoor Track & Field schedule with the USA South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, February 28 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
