WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Graduate student
Channing Barker was crowned conference champion in both the Women's 800 meters and the 1-Mile, while freshman
Cameron Eubanks won the Men's Shot Put to lead Brevard College's performance at the USA South Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at the JDL Fast Track Complex in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
In addition to the podium crowns, BC's Eubanks was named the USA South Indoor Field Rookie of the Meet, securing serious hardware for the Tornados in their inaugural appearance in the Championships.
As a team, Brevard finished fourth in the men's competition and fifth on the women's side. Southern Virginia won both the men's and women's competitions. Pfeiffer placed second and Methodist third in the men's standings, while N.C. Wesleyan and Methodist were 2-3 with Pfeiffer finishing fourth in the women's competition.
Barker won the 800-meter championship with a time of 2:18.95 bettering the second-place finisher Heidi Barton (2:22.77) of Southern Virginia by nearly four seconds. It marked the fourth consecutive race win for Barker in the 800 meters in indoor competition.
The native of Dunlap, Tennessee followed that performance with a championship performance in the Women's 1-Mile with a time of 5:07.6, again topping Barton (5:09.63) who finished in second place. Barker also was part of BC's Distance Relay team that placed third.
Eubanks, a freshman from Lexington, North Carolina, won the Men's Shot Put championship with a throw of 14.09 meters to lead a 1-2-3 podium sweep for the Tornados in the event. Eubanks' teammates
Noah Westbrook (13.87 meters) and
Antonio King (13.89 meters) placed second and third respectively to complete the BC sweep in the event.
The Tornado throwers continued their success with a 2-3-5 performance in the Men's Weight Throw. Junior Henry Tarte finished second with a throw of 12.28 meters. Just behind Tarte came Eubanks with a third-place result after a 12.26-meter throw. King then gave BC a third top-five result in the event with a toss of 12.10 meters.
Jaxson Wilkerson found the podium with a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.95. Wilkerson then earned his second podium of the day by placing third in the Men's High Jump with a mark of 1.80 meters. Wilkerson also finished fifth in Triple Jump (13.03), seventh in the Long Jump (6.40 meters), and tenth in the Pole Vault (2.30 meters) to complete a busy day for the junior from Granite Falls, North Carolina.

Imani Singleton earned a podium finish with a third-place result in the Women's Triple Jump with a finished fifth in both the Women's' High Jump and Long Jump with marks of 1.35 and 4.63 meters.
In the women's 60-meter hurdles, freshman
Elizabeth Foster (10.64) placed fourth and senior
Haylea-Layne Miller (10.94) finished fifth to give BC a pair of additional top-five results. Freshman
Kinsley Burris-Whitesides earned a fourth-place result in the Women's Weight Throw with a mark of 11.84 meters.
Additional top-ten results on the men's side for the Tornados included performances by
Reggie Taylor II (8th, 60-meters),
Colbin Hill (7th, 1-Mile),
Ethan Carlan (10th, 5,000 meters),
Alex Mabry (7th, Pole Vault), and
Donningtun Walters (10th, Shot Put).
Sophomore
KJ Henderson added a top-ten result on the women's side with an eighth-place result in the Shot Put.
The Brevard College Track & Field program will now turn its attention to the outdoor season with action beginning on Friday, March 21 with the Montreat College Open in nearby Montreat, North Carolina.
