Series Concludes Tomorrow in Danville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DANVILLE, Va. - The Brevard College Baseball team (0-2) opened its 2025 campaign with a pair of defeats to Averett University (2-0), 6-1 and 6-5, on Saturday afternoon in Danville, Virginia.

GAME ONE: AVERETT 6, BREVARD 1

Cale Oehler led the Brevard offense with a 3-for-3 performance at dish, scoring BC's lone run with two doubles and a single. Hayden Jennings drove in Oehler with an RBI single as well.

Transfer pitcher Jordan Searcy made his Tornado debut on the mound, tossing three innings of work while recording his first BC strikeout. Colin Weathers also threw three innings for Brevard in his collegiate debut, recording five strikeouts.

Averett got on the board first with a two-RBI triple with two outs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead early. BC took advantage of a Cougar error in the top of the second, as Jennings brought Oehler around to score on an RBI single to cut the deficit in half. The Cougars answered back however, tacking on runs in the third and fourth innings to take a three-run lead, 4-1.

BC threatened in the top of the fifth, getting a pair of runners on base with one out, but a strikeout and a flyout thwarted the rally as the contest shifted to the sixth inning.

The Tornados went down 1-2-3 in the top of the sixth, and Averett was able to tack on a pair of insurance runs in the bottom-half of the frame via a passed ball and sacrifice fly. Vasquez notched a double in the top of the seventh, but the Cougars were able to sea the deal on the season-opening W.

GAME TWO: AVERETT 6, BREVARD 5

Each side got runners on in the first inning, but neither was able to get a runner across the plate in the frame. Averett used a one-out RBI single to pull in front 1-0, and added to its early lead in the bottom of the third with an RBI groundout.

CP Pyle knocked in BC's first run of the ballgame in the top of the fourth with an RBI double, and Oehler plated Pyle to tie things up at two runs apiece.

Averett retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, cashing in a hit-by-pitch with an RBI double. The Cougars tacked on two in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 5-2 game with two innings left to play.

Easton King kicked off BC's comeback bid with an RBI triple in the top of the eighth. Nico Bartolotti brought King around on a fielder's choice, and Tyler Kelson came through with an RBI single to tie things up.

After two outs in the bottom of the ninth, the Cougars began to rally after a fielding error by Brevard. Another error, coupled with a walk, loaded the bases for Averett and an RBI single through the right side of the infield gave the Cougars a two-game sweep.

The series concludes tomorrow with a noon first pitch in Danville.
