MONTREAT, N.C. – The Brevard College Track & Field team opened its 2025 outdoor season with a successful showing at the highly competitive Montreat College Open in Montreat, North Carolina.
Graduate student
Channing Barker continued her success from the indoor season with a third-place finish after running a 4:53.26 in the finals in a field of 19 competitors in the Women's 1500 meters.
Senior
Haylea-Layne Miller placed third in the Women's 100-meter hurdles and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles. BC's
Elizabeth Foster also raced in the 100 hurdles, finishing fourth.
Other strong performances included junior
Imani Singleton placing fifth in the Women's Long Jump with a leap of 4.88 meters. Freshman
Kinsley Burris-Whitesides also garnered a fifth-place result with a throw of 35.08 meters in Women's Hammer. Additionally, Burris-Whitesides competed in the discus and shot put, finishing 16th and 18th. Sophomore
KJ Henderson also saw action in both the shot put and javelin.
Other performers for Brevard on the women's side included
Serenity Jordan (12th) and Foster (13th) in the 100 meters as well as
Kayla Jean (10th) in the 400 meters. Freshman
Carleigh Garrett raced for the Tornados in the Women's 800 meters.
On the men's side, freshman
Alex Mabry won the Men's Pole Vault with a mark of 3.10 meters to defeat two other competitors in the event. Mabry also raced in the 100-meters to round out his weekend.
In throws, junior
Noah Westbrook led the way with a third-place result (14.43 meters) in the Men's Shot Put in a crowded field of 22 throwers. Freshman
Donningtun Walters came up big in the Men's Discus with a throw of 41.52 meters in the finals to finish fifth.
Hank Tarte placed seventh and
Antonio King 13th in the Discus, while King also placed sixth and Walters 15th in Shot Put.
The throwing success continued with the Men's Hammer Throw as King placed fifth followed closely by freshman
Cameron Eubanks. Walters (12th) and Tarte (13th) also performed in the Hammer as four Tornados placed in the top-15 in the event. In Men's Javelin, Westbrook placed sixth and senior
Brian Seon came in 15th.
On the track in men's competition, junior
Owen Plucar was BC's top performer with a sixth-place result in a competitive field of 36 runners in the 800-meters. Freshman
Colbin Hill raced in the Men's 1500 meters, finishing 17th in another deep field, while placing 25th in the 1500.
BC's
Shea Granger and
Ethan Carlan placed seventh and eighth in a small field in the Men's 10,000 meters. Sophomore
Adin DeJesus also saw action, competing in the 400-meter hurdles and the Men's 400-meters.
Next up for the Tornados is the King University on Friday, March 28 in Bristol, Tennessee. BC will then host the second annual Tornado Classic on Friday, April 4 at the Frank Patton Track on the campus of Brevard College.
