Box Score LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (5-0) kept its winning ways going, sweeping doubles and winning five of six singles matches to take a 6-1 team win over Covenant College (2-10) on Tuesday afternoon at the Covenant Tennis Complex atop Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
BC improves to 5-0 on the season, which is the program's best start to a campaign in the NCAA era.
Hannah Hersh and Sophie Trantham teamed up for a thrilling top-flight doubles win, 7-6, after clinching the match with a 7-4 result in the tiebreaker. Tornado teams of Madison Bowen/Jada Ore (6-2) and Gracie Spangler/Casey Wampler (6-1) cruised in their respective matches, as Brevard swept doubles and took a 1-0 match lead.
Bowen (6-4, 6-2), Spangler (6-2, 6-3), and Wampler (6-4, 6-2) had little trouble in their respective singles matches at the two, three, and six spots, as BC reached four points as a team. Trantham and Ore each staved off Covenant comeback efforts in their singles competitions, taking wins at the number four and five spots in thrilling three-set fashion to help the Tornados clinch victory.
Brevard now prepares for a Saturday doubleheader of action at the McCoy Tennis Complex. BC first squares off against Franklin College at 9 a.m. before its USA South Conference opener against Meredith at 1 p.m.
