BRISTOL, Tenn. – Graduate student Channing Barker dominated in the Women's 800 meters and junior Jaxsen Wilkerson won the Men's Triple Jump to lead the Brevard College Track & Field team at the King University Invitational held Friday in Bristol, Tennessee.
Barker, the USA South Indoor Track champion in the 800 meters, won Friday's 800 in dominant fashion with a time of 2:16.19. The native of Dunlap, Tennessee outpaced a field of 21 runners, while finishing over six seconds ahead of unattached runner Kerigan Lewis, the event's second-place finisher.
Wilkerson, who represented Brevard at last year's NCAA Division III national championships, won the triple jump with an impressive 13.74 mark. Wilkerson's triple jump was 1.11 meters beyond the mark of Bennett Simerlein of the host King University.
Junior Imani Singleton put together a strong performance in the Women's Long Jump with a leap of 4.88 meters, placing fifth.
Freshman Kinsley Burris-Whiteside placed sixth in the Women's Hammer with a throw of 35.66 meters. Other notable results on the women's side included Elizabeth Foster (4th place, 100-meter hurdles) and Serenity Jordan (5th place, 100 meters) who both competed against small fields in their respective events.
On the men's side in addition to Wilkerson, the BC throwers once again came up big in a variety of events. Junior Noah Westbrook placed fourth in the Men's Shot Put with an effort of 14.14 meters, while also finishing seventh in the javelin. Freshmen Cameron Eubanks (6th) and Donningtun Walters (7th) were BC's top performers in the Men's Discus. In the Men's Hammer, Eubanks (8th) and sophomore Antonio King (9th) gave the Tornados an additional pair of top-ten's.
BC will now turn its attention to the Second Annual Tornado Classic to be held on Friday, April 4 at the Frank Patton Track on the campus of Brevard College. The event begins at 10 a.m. with the Women's 10,000 meters and Hammer Throw to be followed by a full schedule of events culminating with the Men's 4x400 Relay scheduled for 4:35 p.m.
